We all know that Sarojini Devi was a patriot, freedom fighter, social worker, politician, orator and administrator. She was as much an ideal housewife and mother. A talented poet, it was through her poems and extraordinary, lyrical  oratory that she mesmerized audiences.

Sarojini devi lived her life in true earnestness. Her courage to pursue her dreams, stand by values, her creative ability, intellectual genius, her fearlessness and compassion for all peppered with her inimitable humour are sources of inspiration to all. She believed in service to others, to face the most difficult situations with courage, conviction and to live in simplicity. With her zest for life and indomitable spirit, Sarojini faced life with a ‘song on her lips and a smile on her face.’

Sarojini Devi was known as Sarojini Chattopadhyay before marriage and as Sarojini Naidu after her wedding to Dr.Naidu in 1898. Popularly acclaimed as ‘Bulbul -e Hind’ (Nightingale of India) and Bharat Kokila as Mahatma Gandhi had christened her, to the Nation and her near and dear ones she was ‘akka’, the older sister.

A multifaceted woman of many talents, her favourite philosophy in life was to ‘love and forgive, love and create, love and be free.’ She held that ‘nothing that is good can die’.
